Network Design
Studytech SMILE Plus is much more than a collection of computers. Because it includes a server, networking equipment and networked Smart Terminals, you can deploy Studytech SMILE Plus all over your school, with all the parts of the system talking to each other.
And the Studytech SMILE Plus flexible purchasing options mean that you can start with the parts of your school that need computers the most, and add terminals in more locations over time.
For instance, you might decide to start with the server and a few terminals in the General Office – for the Director, Head Teacher, and Bursar, plus two more for teaching staff to use. You might also add a printer, so the office staff can print notices and accounts for parents. This would be a great way to improve accounting and record keeping, while giving your teachers time to improve their ICT skills.
You may then decide, in a few months or a year later, to add a ten (10) seat computer lab in another building. All you’d need is ten (10) SMILE Smart Terminals and a network switch. The server from your initial purchase will support and manage the whole system.
And all it will take to link them is power and a network cable from the General Office to the Computer Lab.
Alternatively, you might choose to start with a Computer Lab, and add computers for office staff later.
The options are virtually limitless.
Cabling
How you network your school depends on how your buildings are laid out.
If all your rooms are under one roof, then cabling can be installed in the roof space, and extended down the walls as required.
If your buildings are close together, and there’s only a short distance between the rooftops, cabling can be run overhead between buildings.
Over longer distances you’d need to run cables in pipes underground.
