Studytech in Uganda

Studytech started working in Uganda in 2007, when it partnered with an aid organisation to design, implement and support internet cafe(s) in a regional centre.

The experience had a profound impact on the Studytech team and we immediately saw an opportunity to use technology to change lives and learning outcomes of students in Ugandan schools.

Out of that first encounter Studytech Uganda was born.

We’ve developed and installed a range of low-cost computing solutions in primary and secondary schools, medical facilities and internet cafes, all built around our proven Studytech Managed Operating Environment.

We called the project Studytech SMILE – a Secure, Managed Information Learning Environment.

  • Studytech SMILE Mobile is a fully mobile computer lab – a fleet of 10 small laptop computers delivered by motorbike (boda boda), giving schools access to rental equipment they couldn’t otherwise afford.
  • Studytech SMILE Desktop is a computer lab built around low-cost equipment that schools can afford, giving students real-world experience and the IT skills that would prepare them to enter a rapidly changing workforce.
  • Studytech SMILE Plus takes school and small business computing to another level, providing a complete network environment, with extensive features, security and reliability, at a cost effective price.

We employed and trained up a team of local people, giving them the tools and skills to implement and support Studytech SMILE.

After more than a decade supporting clients in Uganda, we’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and experience dealing with government(s), local conditions and customs, mobile carriers, internet companies, schools and NGOs. We also understand the unique challenges and cultural context associated with development, digitisation and knowledge transfer, as well as the movement of people and goods.

Over more than 20 years, Studytech have implemented and supported technology in Australia, New Zealand, Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and The Philippines), North America (USA) and Africa (Uganda), so if your organisation has the will, local knowledge and connections, yet need a technology partner, contact us to discuss what we could achieve together.
